Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a final set.
The opponent defended four early chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
